Short Form has been adapted for use with individuals with
visual impairments. The SIB-R Short Form consists of 40
items covering the entire range of content and development. Approximately
40% of the Short Form adaptive behaviour items have been adapted
by modifying or substituting items to create the SIB-R Short
Form for the Visually Impaired. No changes were necessary
in the maladaptive behaviour section. This adapted version is
designed to be a screening or brief assessment of adaptive and
maladaptive behaviour for the individuals with visual impairments
from infancy to 80+ years of age.
The SIB-R Short Form for the Visually Impaired can be administered
using an interview or checklist procedure. A Broad Independence
Score will be obtained. If the Problem Behaviour items are administered,
four index scores and a Support Score can be calculated. The SIB-R
Comprehensive Manual and norms should be used with this adapted
form.
