ASEBA - TOF Ages 2-18 Module
Test Observation Form for Ages 2-18 (TOF)
Now... empirically based and DSM-oriented
assessment of important behavioural and emotional problems during
testing.
When administering individual ability
and achievement tests, examiners have unique opportunities to assess
important behavioural and emotional problems. Ability and achievement
tests pose significant challenges for many children. Furthermore,
the test results often have high stakes consequences for special
education elgibility and for admission to particular programs.
The TOF includes 125 items for assessing characteristics observed
during individual ability and achievement tests. Each item is scored
on a 4-step scale. The TOF Manual provides details of the development
of the TOF and its scales, its relations to other instruments, and
guidelines for practical applications.
The TOF enhances the value of testing in the following ways:
- Capitalizes on standardized test situations and on examiners'
experience to obtain samples of behaviour that can be compared
across children and for the same child at initial vs. subsequent
evaluations.
- Helps examiners document many characteristics that might not
otherwise be noted.
- Efficiently documents examiners' observations without requiring
written reports.
- Based on TOFs for 3,943 nonreferred children, gender-specific
norms for ages 2-5, 6-11, and 12-18 years measure degrees of deviance
on multiple scales.
- Enables examiners to evaluate test performance in relation to
problems documented during testing.
- Is scored on empirically based syndromes, DSM-oriented Attention
Deficit/Hyperactivity Problems scales and Inattentive and Hyperactivity-Impulsivity
subscales, Internalizing, Externalizing, and Total Problems.
- A child's profile can be compared with profiles scored from
the CBCLK, C-TRF, TRF, YSR, SCICA, and DOF.
- Co-normed with the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth
Edition.
The following syndromes were derived from factor analyses of TOFs
for 3,400 children: Withdrawn/Depressed, Language/Thought Problems,
Anxious, Oppositional, Attention Problems.
DSM-Oriented Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Problems scales has
normed subscales for Inattention and Hyperactivity-Impulsivity.
